I'm a firm believer there is nothing that a good walk in the fresh air can't fix and I'm desperately trying to get my kids on board with this. It's improving but still very much a work in progress, and we very often have princess dresses with wellies making an appearance!
As always, a wonderful take. My toddler calls these brain heart friendship walks and it’s my favorite thing of all time. I know your kiddos are older, but I’m sure you remember how nothing forces you to slow down like a toddler walk.
On opposite sides of the world we are feeling so similar... I wrote about this today too. Ahhh the wonder of walks, children and nature in a world of political chaos @talkingwithatree 🌳
So much of what you have written here resonates with me. My husband and I are not journalists, but we like to discuss current events (I took a number of political science courses decades ago and read mostly nonfiction books). I am too overwhelmed by the news these days to even gather my thoughts. We’re finally getting less rain where we live in Oregon and I am savoring my time outdoors.
This is beautiful Jenny. I remember how baffled I was when Chris suggested we go for a walk when we were at university. Flash forward 13 years and its my favourite thing we do as a family

Stick with it! They will come to love it. Or at least not complain endlessly. 😂
We try to take a walk as a family daily here in the US. Not always easy as most everywhere is so car centric - but we try!
"a socialist government"?
Great article, Jenny. Walks in any weather are part of the British dna, a blueprint for life!
